Lords / Black Feelings - Split - RED COLORED VINYL 7"

$6.99

Lords have established themselves as one of the premier UK rock groups. If Lords had a mission at their formation then it was simply to rebel against the trend for angst and catharsis in punk rock and return to playing music that allowed for communal release and a collective party experience for both band and audience. Maybe to their own surprise this manifested itself in a bastardised but totally natural hybrid of early 20th century blues, squidgy 70s rock and euphoric free jazz coupled to the live energy of the DC hardcore bands that had inspired the members to play music in the first place. Most importantly, it spawned a band that fellow groups and gig-goers alike embraced and supported until the idea of ’Lords’ became somehow self-supporting, an entity that no one member was in charge of, that had no rules and was totally unique. Records received glowing reviews across the board, and has seen the band over the last 3 years play shows at the annual SXSW , All Tomorrows Parties , Latitude and Dot To Dot Fetivals. They’ve been invited to play shows with The Magic Band, The Groundhogs, Shellac, Lightning Bolt, etc, done a split 10” and tour with Part Chimp, Todd and Hey Colossus. Their track on this 7”, ‘Space and Death Recipe’, is a brand new song. Black Feelings are the essence of a power trio: Conisiting of two former members of Montreal’s Les Angles Morts, the band has developed a unique a hybrid of the British post punk and experimental scenes that spawned the likes of This Heat, Gang of Fourand the Pop Group with heavy traces of psychedelic-goth and cold wave. Like American band The Liars, Black Feelings’ penchant for combining a variety of influences to conjure up a sound that is both retro and vitally fresh at the same time. The band’s main vocalist and drummer Owain Lawson is kept busy as he sings and holds down the rhythm section alongside fellow founding member and bassist Brian Mitchell, while the sound is rounded out with shimmering guitar and synth flourishes provided by Kyle Fostner. Listenning to Black feelings self-titled debut is never dull, as moody vibes ebb and flow throughout the long player carried by propulsive bass and drums. For a small band these guys have a huge sound. The drums have an almost war song intensity that helps drive the music alongside the bass, guitars, and synth allthe while delivering really catchy anthemic songs. In their two years of existence Black Feelings have released a cassette, a 7” single and a full length album for Alien8 Records on Canada. This 7” was recorded by engineer Mark Lawson, who’s credits include Arcade Fire, Beirut, Final Fantasy, Akron Family and The Unicorns to name a few. BBC - "rattling and rolling with intent and purpose while also braving tumult and tension"
