CREATION IS CRUCIFIXION returns with live appearance and new release

Pittsburgh tech-metal hactivists Creation is Crucifixion has reactivated with a double-LP and live appearance scheduled at King of the Monsters’ 20th Anniversary Festival on Saturday, August 1st 2015.

Largely inactive for the past dozen years, CIC cut their teeth in the underground punk/hardcore circuits of the late 90’s and early 00’s. The band’s technical approach to death metal, mixed with a staunchly subversive attitude and subject matter garnered Creation is Crucifixion a cult-following.

Long rumored for over a decade, Antenna Builder, the ‘final’ recording by Creation is Crucifixion’s last active lineup is a 9-minute opus that brilliantly merges CIC’s heavy music along with the noise passages the band became renown for. As one of the highest-fidelity recordings from the band’s extensive output, the lineup’s similarly oppressive Rerecorded Splits material is being joined on a 45rpm 12″ vinyl record released by longtime cohorts Robotic Empire.

Accompanying the studio-recordings 12″ will be a live LP from a classic CIC’s set from on their last European tour, captured Geneva, Switzerland during May of the millennial year. These 15+ year recordings will both finally become available just in time for Creation is Crucifixion’s reunion show at King of the Monster Records’ massive 20th anniversary celebration in Mesa, AZ at the beginning of August. The band released material with the longrunning label back in the late 90’s.

In a lengthy new interview with Vice’s Noisey blog, CIC vocalist Nathan Martin details his transition from frontman of a hardcore metal band to tech company CEO:

“I got into the noise scene following people like Eric Wood [of Bastard Noise] and he’s into noise for a very valid reason, he cares about sound … I remember him always pushing to be more prolific. Man is the Bastard and Bastard Noise clearly do this, they are prolific. Keep doing it. That’s almost a kind of work ethic thing that I even try to do here at Deeplocal, the company I built. Just do it, get it out there, push it and do as much stuff as you can.

We started from a single contract to do some design work. I went back to what I loved doing, which is a little bit of physical engineering, a little bit of software, a little bit of design. I figured I’m just going to use this to do whatever I want to do and we slowly built the company from two people, to five, then eight and now to 25. It was slow, and we’re going on nine years now doing that.

What we did really well was always seize opportunities. When it seemed like there was an opportunity, we did it. I treated the company like a band. Everything that I learned from that band… I did with this company. We built a brand that’s more or less based on trying to be a metal band as a fucking company.”

The full interview gives a concise overview of both Creation is Crucifixion and Deeplocal, along with their approach and impact on existing in two complimentary but very different realms:

The Antenna Builder + Rerecorded Splits and Live In Geneva 2xLP will be available in a limited capacity at the King of the Monsters festival, followed shortly after by a widespread release via Robotic Empire.

Robotic Empire announces second Nirvana tribute, “Whatever Nevermind”

Robo116---cover-420px
We are extremely stoked to announce our second tribute to Nirvana, this time with their breakout Nevermind album being covered in full by a diverse range of bands. The new tribute LP, titled Whatever Nevermind, is being released April 18th in conjunction with Record Store Day 2015, and sees diverse contributions from Boris, Cave In, Circa Survive, Kylesa, La Dispute, Nothing, Pygmy Lush, Thou, Torche, Touche Amore, White Reaper, Wrong and Young Widows.

The lineup assembled for Whatever Nevermind has some of our favorite active bands running Nirvana’s classics through their own creative filters. What they’ve come up with is a great merging of individual style with a nod to the influence of ‘grunge’.

Nirvana clearly doesn’t need further accolade; they’ve been inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame, are known by most music fans on the planet, and are one of the all-time greats. That being said, Nirvana helped shape our tastes and of countless musicians we respect, and to pay even a slight homage to them in return is a privilege. Working with the amazing range of talents involved here, including several return contributors from the first tribute LP, is an absolute honor, and we can’t wait for people to hear the results.

Circa Survive‘s take on ‘Drain You’ premieres today via Alternative Press and can be heard here:

http://www.altpress.com/features/entry/circa_survive_cover_nirvanas_drain_you_exclusive

On their method of tackling the project, Brendan from Circa Survive says:

“There are different ways to approach covering a band. For us, doing a Nirvana song takes us back to a very raw place that we were in when we were young and just falling in love with music. We didn’t want to say ‘here’s what this song would’ve sounded like if Circa wrote it’. It was way more fun for us to live in their energy and pay homage to their influence by just rocking the shit out of it and keeping it raw.”

The vinyl edition of Whatever Nevermind is being released as a 12″ + bonus 7″ combined, with artwork inspired by and mutated from the original album, and includes a high-quality digital download. Record Store Day 2015 will see an exclusive color-vinyl edition accompanied by a large poster, akin to the 2014 RSD release of In Utero: In Tribute.

The tribute will also be available April 18th to download/stream from all digital outlets, with digital pre-orders now available from iTunes including immediate availability of Circa Survive‘s cover of ‘Drain You':

https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/whatever-nevermind-tribute/id973746631

Last year’s In Utero: In Tribute vinyl sold out on release day, the digital version received a spotlight on the iTunes storefront and received coverage across high-profile media including Alternative Press, SPIN and The Guardian.

As Robotic Empire’s 100th release, “In Utero: In Tribute” concluded an oft-rumored, elusive 7-year project. Just one year later, the catalog number for followup homage “Whatever Nevermind” appropriately lands at Robo 116, as the label celebrates its 16th year of existence with this release. We couldn’t be more proud and excited to present this to you!

Introducing WRONG and TERMINAL FUZZ TERROR with vinyl and download preorders!

Things have finally calmed down here at Robo HQ after the insane activity from several ISIS vinyl reissues. Happy to have Oceanic, Panopticon and In The Absence Of Truth out there and reasonably widespread again, we’re now ready to introduce you to two new bands joining the Robo roster by launching two new preorders!

TERMINAL FUZZ TERROR are a Seattle-based band consisting of D. Rodriguez (guitar, vocals), D. Nelson (guitar, vocals), A. Crawshaw (drums) and J. Kleine (bass). Drummer Crawshaw also runs the Seattle based screen printing monolith Broken Press, who screened all printwork for TFT’s hand assembled, limited release. Their vinyl debut, Vol 0: In The Shadow Of The Mountain, was recorded at Witch Ape Studio, engineered and mixed by Tad Doyle (of TAD) and mastered by James Plotkin.

TFT unleash a raw fury of rock n’ roll drifted through the filters of punk, psychedelia and blues. Pummeling percussion and wailing riffs accompany a vocal delivery that channels an obliterated Jim Morrison at the height of religious revelry! The magnanimous 17-minute title track B-side closes out Vol 0: In The Shadow Of The Mountain with a long form, slow burning mind melter. You can sample for yourself by previewing “Megalodon” now via The Obelisk.

TFT print spread
Housed in a silk screened jacket limited to 300 copies, this is a thing of beauty and includes a high-quality digital download, massive poster and insert. 50 special deluxe versions of the record include an embroidered 4″ round patch and come packaged in a screen printed tote bag (a very limited amount are available for mailorder from us).

We’ve also got some badass t-shirts for TFT, printed on cozy ass Anvil Ringspun shirts – hit that up too for some new digs.

Available on March 3rd, Vol 0: In The Shadow Of The Mountain pre-orders are up now and expected to ship around Feb. 27th.

* VINYL pre-orders via Robotic Empire’s Online Store

* DOWNLOAD pre-orders via iTunes or Bandcamp

On the other side of the heavy spectrum, for the folks who’ve been wondering what the CAPSULE dudes have been up to, we’re beyond stoked to introduce you to WRONG!

Comprised of Eric Hernandez on guitars / vocals, brother Brian Hernandez on drums, Andres Ascanio on the bass and Ryan Haft on guitars, Miami, Florida’s WRONG debut with an absolutely pummeling four-track EP titled Stop Giving. With an emphasis on bludgeon and groove, it’s hard not to compare their first recordings to heyday-era HELMET; but WRONG deliver their own dissonance, atmosphere and attitude in a massive combination of power and skill. An indication of things to come, Stop Giving preludes a full-length due on Robotic Empire later this year.

The Stop Giving EP vinyl plays at 45rpm, is limited to 300 copies, and comes in silk screened packaging with artwork by TORCHE‘s Rick Smith, printed at Seattle’s Broken Press. Self-recorded and mixed in Summer 2014 at Pinecrust studios in Miami, FL by Ryan Haft, the EP was mastered by Nick Zampiello at New Alliance. Including a high quality digital download, you can listen to “Call It” now on our Bandcamp page.

Vinyl is being assembled now and is set to begin shipping around Feb. 27th !

ISIS – “Panopticon” remastered 2xLP vinyl now available, plus distro items and restocks.

It’s been an absolutely berzerker holiday season, but no rest for the restless as we’re STRAIGHT back into it #2015 style… into the beastmode, here we go:

PanopticonSpread700

ISIS (the band) vinyl repress madness continues with Panopticon now getting the royal treatment, remastered audio, revamped printwork and all! This is the first full-length we ever worked with the band on, almost 10-years ago to the date (!), and it feels great to have it in print and available all these years later.

This time around the ante has been upped with Mika Jussila of Finnvox Studios’ brilliant audio remastering, who was also responsible for the recent Oceanic remastering as well (previously erroneously credited by us to James Plotkin, who also does great work).

Aaron Turner’s iconic layout has also received a tune-up, with uncoated printed-innersleeves housed within a super high-gloss, tip-on heavyweight gatefold jacket.

2000 copies of this beautiful latest pressing were made: 200 on clear/translucent blue, 500 on clear/translucent orange and 1300 on black vinyl. Panopticon is in-house now and available to order from the Robotic Empire – Online Store.

ISIS “Oceanic” 2xLP re-mastered repress, and annual Crazy Holiday Sale

holidaysale700webIt’s crazy to think about, but the year is almost over. Everything ramps up surrounding the holidays, and we’re doing a mini “Black Friday” crazy holiday sale, with 30% off all orders $50 or more. This is the biggest blanket-discount we’ve ever done in the Robotic Empire – Online Store, so now is a great time to stock up on killer vinyl, shirts, CDs or whatever you and/or your loved ones are after this holiday season.

On that note, we are working through the entire month non-stop, so the “XMASPARTY” coupon code will hook ya up throughout the rest of the year. Just enter it during your checkout and you’re good to go.

We’re not giving a definitive “you must get orders in by X date to get stuff by Christmas” like we have in the past – so if you’re trying to get gift-orders in, try and do so ASAP as it’s very tricky to gauge/guarantee shipping times around this season.

oceanic-spread700webThis would be a good time to mention that we’re currently taking pre-orders for the new repress of ISIS‘ landmark opus, Oceanic. Probably the defining ISIS album now that it’s said and done, showcasing a band at the height of a monumental transition, “Oceanic” was/is hailed by many fans as ISIS’ landmark album, earned widespread critical acclaim and was even dubbed “seminal” by Drowned In Sound.

Raising the massive bridge between crushing metal and atmospheric post-rock, ISIS truly came into their own sound on this brilliant sophomore album. This stunning double LP is unquestionably one of ISIS’ pinnacle achievements getting the proper vinyl treatment it so utterly deserves.

2180 total copies were made of this new pressing of Oceanic: 200 on translucent light green, 500 on cream w/green splatter, 1480 on black.

Fully printed on reverse-board stock with “tip-on” style gatefold jackets and printed innersleeves, the audio for this new vinyl pressing was carefully remastered by sonic wizard James Plotkin. Explains drummer Aaron Harris, “The clarity that’s been revealed in these songs was surprising even to me. I’ve heard these songs probably thousands of times. When I listened to the remastered version of “Weight” it was like I was back in the studio recording the song. I also noticed a lot of new detail in Jeff’s bass guitar, and energy in the guitars. I know Oceanic is a favorite among fans, and I think this remaster will bring a new appreciation even to those who have heard it many times.”

This is available to pre-order now in the Robotic Empire Online Store, and is expected to ship around the first week of December.

Big ups & Happy Holidays!

New ALPACA digital EP, TILTS and THOU vinyl, plus t-shirts and more

Alpaca-PostEmpireRelease700
Los Angeles / New York duo ALPACA today release their sophomore offering, a four song EP titled Post Empire.

Recorded throughout 2013 and 2014, the two man electronic/rock outfit comprised of Allen Blickle and Justin Nuckols explore a slightly darker territory on their latest effort. While retaining the catchy elements ALPACA established on their debut album Demimonde, there’s increased melancholy compared to the breakout debut last year. The proggy sensibilities are more apparent in the less-conventional song structures, and a haunting dissonance balances this new material’s impressive impact.

Blickle’s bombastic and technical drumming style that he grew throughout his tenure with rock group BARONESS shines bright on the harder groove tracks, while Nuckols’ at times ethereal guitar style and vocal performances resonate further maturity on the duo’s new work.

Comments Blickle on the release, “Post Empire in essence portrays a present picture of our personalities musically and contextually. Exploring new territory for every record we work on is what excites us to move forward in our musical relationship.”

The Post Empire EP is now available digitally worldwide via iTunes, Spotify, Bandcamp and others.

On the opposite end of the format spectrum, THOU‘s monster 12″ EP, The Sacrifice, from earlier this year has just been re-pressed. Quickly blowing out when it landed late spring, this tidy beast returns to wax in all its tip-on jacket / 180-gram vinyl glory! Comprised of five burly tracks recorded during the Heathen album sessions, the 25 minutes of The Sacrifice offers some of the band’s most condensed work to date, eschewing the crawl found on most of their long-players and upping the tempo a bit while retaining their revered doom and roar.

Several new bludgeoners (“New Orleans Is a Hole,” “Pill,” and “Eulogy”) are joined with the masterful drone of “I Believe Because It Is Impossible” and, per usual, a ferocious NIRVANA cover, this time putting “I Hate Myself and I Want to Die” through their apocalyptic grinder. Accompanying the 45 RPM heavyweight clear vinyl 12″ is a high quality digital download included, where THOU once again presents the thunder with quality and class.
