Blood Mixtape Cover420

We have just released a 30-track free mixtape called “Blood”, comprised entirely of Robotic Empire label alumni’s newest material. There’s over 20 previously unreleased tracks, which winds up being the debut release of a lot of artists’ new/side/solo projects, and we’re extremely happy to be presenting this to you today.

You can download/stream “Blood” free now via Bandcamp and/or stream Soundcloud:

To elaborate a bit, we’ve been a label for 15 years now and to celebrate we decided to assemble a unique kind of release – where the primary focus is what’s going on with the amazing musicians we’ve worked with over the years, be it their latest material, an unreleased b-side, or the unexpected solo/side project’s latest stuff. When we started contacting bands the response was overwhelmingly positive, and ver about a two-month material the project snowballed, turning into the free 30 track beast before you!

There are contributions from repeat offenders TORCHE, TILTS, PYGMYLUSH, HOLLOW SUNSHINE, TIDELAND and ALPACA, this sampler also spotlights a swath of new material from members of historic Robo bands PG.99, DAUGHTERS, ISIS, CAPSULE, RED SPAROWES, CRESTFALLEN, YOUNG WIDOWS, STOP IT!!, DIAL, ULTRA DOLPHINS, A STORM OF LIGHT, VERSE EN COMA and many more. Worth elaborating on is the lead track from TORCHE, oddly-enough named after Robotic Empire’s label founder. Steve Brooks from the band had the following comment in response to this:

“This is a lost track we recorded for the “Songs for Singles” record in 2010. We weren’t completely satisfied with how it turned out and planned on rewriting it one day. One of the riffs got used in “Letting Go” (Harmonicraft). It’s a tune I kinda forgot about until Andy Low (pack rat) sent us a copy asking if we’d be into having this on his new comp. Sure, why not? If it wasn’t for Mr Low, Rick and I wouldn’t have met, Torche might not have existed and who knows where we’d all be today? We decided to call the song “Andy Low” to make him uncomfortable/feel strange about his name as a song title AND because we love the hell out of him. “Andy Low” is for our boy Andy Low/Robodog/Robotic Empire Records. Enjoy!”

Quote label founder Andy Low on assembling this release:

“I’m truly humbled and fairly weirded-out to have a song named after me. But far more importantly, I’m blown away by the sheer talent that surrounds this free ‘mixtape’ release. Every song included amazes me in some manner, and the culmination of all this material gives me the same kind of excitement I felt on the cusp of releasing our most influential records over the years.

If you can, please take the time to check out the full release, especially the songs by bands you haven’t heard before. It was sequenced with a classic mixtape feel in mind, and set to flow as best it can with such a wide variety of material! With two tracks for each year of the label’s existence, there is a plethora of great new tunes lurking in here, which I hope you’ll find and enjoy.

A genuine and hearty thankyou is due to every artist who is a part of this, it means the world to be celebrating 15 years as a label with such amazing musicians, and their projects past, present and future!”

The “Blood” mixtape can be downloaded now for FREE via Robotic Empire’s bandcamp page, or streamed in full via Soundcloud:

HOLLOW SUNSHINE album out today, video premiere on Noisey/Vice, iTunes coverage and mo’

We are thrilled to announce that the debut album by HOLLOW SUNSHINE is out today! Available on vinyl through the Robotic Empire – Online Store and digitally through iTunes or Bandcamp, Held Above contains 9 tracks of blissed out doom/pop/garage glory.

Also premiering today is the band’s first official music video, for the album track “Here For Now”. This just dropped via Noisey / Vice, who called it “handheld and woozily out of focus – like the world is whizzing by when you’re just the right side of tipsy… It’s pure 90s and it makes us wanna dig out that dusty Big Muff and turn everything up loud.” Believe dat!

On the digital download tip, iTunes was kind enough to feature the album cover on their Main storefront page, Music landing page, and Alternative genre page. Too cool! Here’s a little screengrab of HOLLOW SUNSHINE chillin below their girl Lady Gaga:

HOLLOW SUNSHINE vinyl in! +THOU cassette represses and heavy distro items

We’re massively stoked to announce that the debut longplayer by HOLLOW SUNSHINE, Held Above, is now available and Pitchfork has dropped the title track song premier, proclaiming it “a sublime slice of downer pop”.

For the uninitiated, HOLLOW SUNSHINE are a California duo who combine deep tuning with pop undertones and a garage din, crafting a unique combination of warmly familiar elements. The hypnotic swirl of lush vocals hovering over downtuned riffs and steady rhythms yield a mesmerizing listening experience.

Held Above exists within a delicate balance between blown out sludge, narcotic drone and pop sensibilities. Yet this contrast between heaviness and catchiness, with melodic vocals providing a calm and consistent drift throughout, sets HOLLOW SUNSHINE well apart from contemporaries.

The nine tracks of Held Above were self-recorded by the band, vocalist Morgan Enos and guitarist / songwriter Reuben Sawyer, then mastered by James Plotkin, aiming for a soothing “lo” fidelity with clarity kept in mind. This album should appeal to varied fans of everything from TORCHE and JESU to BUILT TO SPILL and SMASHING PUMPKINS.

A visual artist renowned for his work via Rainbath Visual (CHELSEA WOLFE, DEAFHEAVEN, DESTRUCTION UNIT etc etc), Sawyer also conceived the stark imagery for the cover, which is screen-printed on complimentary colored paper by Broken Press. 700 copies of HOLLOW SUNSHINE‘s debut LP were made in the first pressing:

* 100 pink (includes a bonus back-patch)
* 200 white
* 400 black

With a high-quality digital download included, Held Above can now be ordered from the following locations:

* Vinyl w/download available now from Robotic Empire or Revolver, Interpunk and more.

* Digital pre-orders are now live at iTunes or Bandcamp, Amazon and more (available digitally on November 12th).

We’re also happy to report that the two long-playing THOU “EP”s released by Robotic Empire, Baton Rouge, You Have Much to Answer For and The Archer & The Owle, have both been repressed on cassette.

Both releases have been repressed on white cassettes, 200 of each this time around. Same oppressively burly jams, both of which can be found in full on our Bandcamp page.

* These two THOU tapes and far more (shirts, vinyl, CDs, etc) are available now in the Robotic Empire – Online Store

Hollow Sunshine debut album to be released by Robotic Empire

Hollow Sunshine Promo PhotoRobotic Empire is proud to present Hollow Sunshine‘s debut LP, titled Held Above, set for a November 12th release date worldwide.

Hollow Sunshine is a California-based duo consisting of Reuben Sawyer (instrumentation) and Morgan Enos (vocals). Blending massive downtuned riffs with a pop aesthetic, Held Above yields a familiar yet all together unique listening experience

The contrast between heaviness and catchiness (with melodic vocals providing a calm, consistent drift throughout) makes Hollow Sunshine stand out starkly from contemporaries. Blurring the line between pummelling doom and soaring pop, Held Above expands upon ideas forged on initial EPs released by Vendetta and Bridgetown Records, but with new found clarity to composition and production.

A visual artist by trade, Sawyer is also known for his intricate artwork through Rainbath Visual, utilized by a variety of bands such as Chelsea Wolfe, Deafheaven, Inter Arma, Thou and Wolves in the Throne Room. His minimalist imagery for Held Above juxtaposes the rich sonic textures found within the 9-track album.

Held Above is Hollow Sunshine‘s strongest work to date, and will be available on vinyl and digitally via Robotic Empire on November 12th. Audio, video and further details will become available shortly, and for now a teaser trailer can be viewed here:
