ULTRA DOLPHINS "Mar" vinyl now available +Robotic Empire wallets, more!

It’s been a long time coming, but ULTRA DOLPHINS‘ debut album MAR is finally upon us, and the vinyl for this beast turned out pretty freakin’ crucial! While the CD is now available in stores and distros across the land, the vinyl won’t really surface elsewhere until November 21st… so we’re the only place to pick up this thing right now. We made 1200 copies of MAR on vinyl, and couldn’t be too much happier with the results. Here’s what we wrote about the album for those who don’t know about it yet:

ULTRA DOLPHINS debut album, briefly titled MAR, represents a fairly major departure from the band’s previous spazz-oriented, garage band freak-outs. Without losing focus on songwriting, the off-kilter structures move continually forward building up frantic but calculated momentum. Several piano tracks accompany drums and noisy guitars along with well-placed vocal melodies. The result is a dizzying but somehow unified listening experience which features a band at the height of their creative prowess. The packaging for this thing is equally intense, with a nice full-color jacket and large 12-page song book. A solid debut album to say the least, and a true masterpiece to say the most!

You can sample 3 different MP3s from this behemoth here and/or here.

If you’ve read enough and know you want this, please hit up the Robotic Empire – Online Store.

We’re guessing the vinyl fanatics will want to know pressing info, so here it is. A total of 1200 copies of this beast were made:

* GOLD VINYL w/ SILVER STREAKS: 800 copies
* CLEAR VINYL w/ RED HALO: 200 copies
* TRANSLUCENT ORANGE VINYL: 200 copies

Want proof that this thing turned out jawesome? PHOTOS!

The “metallic” opaque gold vinyl has some opaque silver streaks thrown in for good measure, the clear vinyl has a translucent red “halo” which looks weird but awesome, and the translucent orange vinyl pretty much looks like a Jolly Rancher.

So now you’ve probably decided whether you want this or not, and if the answer is “yes” (and we hope it is because we bought a lot of LP mailers), please head on over to the Robotic Empire – Online Store to order.

We like making random merch as well, so we printed up some wallets with our logo(s) on it! Yep, we shelled out the big bucks and got black American Apparel-brand wallets printed up with white ink on them featuring two old Robotic Empire logos revamped just for this jam. Keep your money safe in (weird) style, as this thing is pretty much top-notch!

And if all this wasn’t quite enough, we keep on adding new stuff and re-stocking the Online Store, so here’s the latest on that front:

ULTRA DOLPHINS debut album, briefly titled “MAR”, represents a fairly major departure from the band..s previous spazz-oriented, garage band freak-outs. Without losing focus on songwriting, the off-kilter structures move continually forward building up frantic but calculated momentum. The result is a dizzying but somehow unified listening experience which features a band at the height of their creative prowess. The packaging for this thing is equally intense, with a 6-panel chipboard jacket and 12-page song book. A solid debut album to say the least, and a true masterpiece to say the most!

New ULTRA DOLPHINS track posted, East Coast tour with GOSPEL

ULTRA DOLPHINS debut album, briefly titled “Mar”, will finally see the light of day on November 7th in both the CD and LP formats. These 12 tracks span a solid 30 minutes and represent a fairly major departure from the band..s previous spazz-oriented, garage band freak-outs.

To celebrate the release of this long-overdue full-length, the band will embark on a solid east coast week+ party to showcase the new songs publicly. ULTRA DOLPHINS should also have both formats of “Mar” at said dates (most of which are with Level Plane’s mighty GOSPEL):

10/21 – Brooklyn, NY @ Brooklyn Fireproof – w/ Dactyl, You Will Die, Bacon Wagon (Sweden)
10/25 – Charlottesville, VA @ TBA – w/ Gospel
10/26 – Savannah, GA @ Guitar Bar – w/ Gospel, VCR
10/27 – Gainesville, FL @ THE FEST V – w/ Gospel, VCR and 1 million badass bands
10/29 – Charleston, SC @ Cumberlands – w/ Gospel, VCR
10/30 – Asheville, NC @ El Nuevo – w/ Gospel
10/31 – Richmond, VA @ The Bike Lot – w/ Gospel, The Catalyst, Brainworms
11/02 – Wilmington, DE @ Mojo-13
11/04 – New York, NY @ Sin-é – Neurot & Robotic Empire CMJ Showcase – w/ Kayo Dot, Made Out Of Babies, MGR, Grails, Tone, Versoma

A new, streaming-only track from the album has now been posted on myspace:

FOUR New Vinyl Releases (VERSOMA, WINDMILLS BY THE OCEAN, PINK RAZORS, ULTRA DOLPHINS)

Hey folks, so we just put out FOUR new LPs… yeah, lots of vinyl. To make it more confusing, there’s three different color vinyl variations for each release… 12 different color-combinations total. Wait, it needs to be more weird? Two of these releases have pre-order combo packages where you can get an exclusive t-shirt design through our site only. Oh, and music? It’s the debut material from four vastly different bands: PINK RAZORS, ULTRA DOLPHINS, VERSOMA and WINDMILLS BY THE OCEAN.

I don’t even really know where to begin… so I won’t. There’s so much text, other photos and MP3 links on our site that you’d probably just be best off going there if you’re interested. Thanks, and enjoy!

ULTRA DOLPHINS Tour Europe, Release Collections Album

Richmond/Philly/NY’s vagabonds ULTRA DOLPHINS recently embarked on their first European tour alongside their close pals WOW OWLS. December 26th – January 15th is safely seeing them travel all around mainland Europe, delivering their patented, unique blend of post-hardcore, math rock, indie, chaotic hardcore and far more. Upon the return to the states, the band will finish the final stages of mixing their upcoming debut album for Robotic Empire, simply entitled “Mar”.

This, the band’s first full-length, has been recorded over several months at Richmond‘s fine Recorditorium studio with engineer Jason Laferrera (Stop It!!, Gregor Samsa, VCR, etc). A plethora of tracks will be included on this fierce debut, which will see a release mid-2006. Until then, the band has compiled six older tracks from two limited EP releases for the “Why Are You Laugh” collections disc on Robotic Empire. This intense 24-minute CD will hit the streets March 14th, but both the band and label have them available now, on tour and through Robotic Empire’s Online Store, respectively. A newly re-mastered MP3 from the collections disc has been posted at the following locations:

Welcome Two New Bands To Robotic Empire: CAPSULE and ULTRA DOLPHINS

Miami, Florida commands a lot of respect in the heart of Robotic Empire with several of its offspring joining our roster over the years (Tyranny of Shaw, Torche and now Shitstorm as well). We are proud to welcome its young sons known only as CAPSULE. This trio plays furious and interesting tunes of blistering proportions, combining everything from super thick riffs with frantic blasts to mellow melodic guitars that meander into jazzy interludes or suddenly collapse into thunderous maelstroms.

These comrades have served time in both Tunes For Bears and Tyranny of Shaw, but the new sounds they’ve created are unlike anything we’ve heard before. It is almost reminiscent to a few heavy screamo bands of the past in the technical/off-kilterness of Jeromes Dream or Love Lost But Not Forgotten, but taking it WAY up a notch without piercing vocals, instead opting for an innovative unison-sung triple-vocal assault that is somehow both quite grabbing and simultaneously haunting.

We are absolutely thrilled to be working with CAPSULE as their demo has more or less completely blown us away, and will be releasing a full-length CD with them early next year. In the meantime, we highly encourage you to check them out as a demo MP3 can be found here.

Having known these dudes for many, many years now (ten for one member!), we couldn’t really be much happier to be working with our longtime pals, the ULTRA DOLPHINS! Another mighty power-trio to add to the fold, these Philly/NY/Richmond dudes are an absolute clobberhouse that somehow channels an incredible amount of styles to create a very passionate, noisy and unforgiving blend of post-hardcore, punk, indie, rock and way more. We’re talking Jesus Lizard, Fugazi, Led Zeppelin, Frodus, Shellac, Hella, Snack Truck (with whom they share members) and just plain ol’ pummeling rock in general. The live energy this band exhumes is completely uncontrollable and we are way beyond stoked to have them on board!

Ultra Dolphins are joining the label with a bang, in the form of TWO full-length releases right off the bat! Coming out early next year, one will be a collection of their Self-Titled EPs that have been wondrously remastered at Silver Sonya (the place Dischord remastered the bulk of their catalog).

The other will be a brand new full-length recorded by Laferrera (Gregor Samsa, Stop It!!, VCR) and promises to be an absolute scorcher. In the meantime, you can hear two (unmastered) MP3s from the EPs right here.
