Robotic Empire Online Store September Update

Hey everyone, September is almost over and fall is creeping up on us out here in the beautiful mountains of NE Washington. Firewood cutting, chimney pipe cleaning, various last minute cleanup and repairs around Robo headquarters have been on the agenda as we prepare for winter snow that will eventually come. Lots of good tunes have been getting jammed over here while working on these fall activities and we’re hoping you will be interested in picking up some of these below new items and restocks!

Can’t get enough of the Khruangbin album on Night Time Stories! Self described as 60’s Thai Funk, Khruangbin is steeped in the bass heavy, psychedelic sound of their inspiration, Tarantino soundtracks. Please check them out. The Lucy Dacus album has been on a constant repeat, absolutely love her voice, great song writing, can’t wait for more from her in the future as this one is just stunning!

Picked up some great tape and vinyl releases from Kitty Play records, lots of variety there so please peruse the list below. Bastard Noise tape, Emperor of the North cassette which is WT Nelson’s solo project, known for his work with Bastard Noise, Solo debut by Jay Randall of Agoraphobic Nosebleed, like I said, great stuff, check that list!

The new Helen Money album on Thrill Jockey is now in the store along with, Jay Reatard vinyl from Matador, some more soul via Naomi Shelton And The Gospel Queens on Daptone Records, Russian CirclesGuidance album, and some Reggae from The Frightnrs which we find to be a great evening album for relaxing and unwinding from your day.

Later in October we’ll have that new cassette EP from Virginia Creep so stay tuned for more news on that front. Can’t wait for you guys to hear those new tunes and pick up the tape and some new stickers we had made just for the release.

Gonna list last months update for you to look over again too as there were lots of goodies posted in August also in case you missed that one. Also the last two days of the T-Shirt sale is going on now. All shirts in the Robotic Empire Online Store are 30% off till the end of the month. Better get on that!

Thanks as always everyone and have a great fall season!

Robotic Empire Launches Man Is The Bastard: Bastard Noise new release!

Hey guys. We’re so excited to announce our June 24th release which is a new album from BASTARD NOISE titled “The Honesty Shop”. Yes we know we are a day early but we are so stoked we just can’t wait! For the past 25 years, BASTARD NOISE has articulated it’s mission between the spectrum of sheer, primitive “caveman electronics” to the spectral fascination of man’s ridiculous “legend in his own mind'” status and regression through technology. With over 90 releases to date, enter the brand new full length LP by Bastard Noise titled “The Honesty Shop”. Two long form compositions at nearly 20 minutes each that were custom designed, arranged, recorded, mixed and professionally edited by Michael Rozon (“THE RED LIST”, “A CULTURE OF MONSTERS”, “SKULLDOZER” and “ROGUE ASTRONAUT” to name a few).

This time around the line-up of Bastard Noise consists of New York based sound designer/performer Anthony Saunders and founding member Eric Wood. Vast, post Armageddon landscapes riddled with extremely dynamic geography that is crystal clear in delivery and accentuated with Wood’s most brutal and extreme vocals to date. Cut by engineer master David Cheppa (NWA, GETO BOYS, BLACK FLAG, KRATWERK, etc.), “THE HONESTY SHOP” is a must have for all mutants addicted to hearing more in sound.

Packaged in a screen printed, single pocket jacket including a screen printed insert (screened by our buds at Broken Press in Seattle!) containing lyrics, this release is limited to 400 copies on clear candy colored pink vinyl, 100 of which are a deluxe version including an enamel pin and cloth patch. Cloth patch is white cloth with black ink and we have 2 color versions of the enamel pin, silver and gold. Sorry, no choice on the pin color, we will choose when packing your order.

On a personal note, I (Lindsay) just want to say that it’s been an amazing pleasure to work with and get to know Eric Wood further throughout this project. He is an amazingly talented man and a very unique individual who cares so deeply about what he creates and the world and people around him. So honored to know him and be a part of his art in this small way. Thank you Eric for the opportunity.

Well we hope everyone is as excited as we are for the new BASTARD NOISE release. Head on over to the Robotic Empire Online Store now and pick up your copy before those deluxe versions sell out!

In addition to the new June release we also have picked up the new Radiohead album along with a decent amount of their back catalog. We were lucky to be able to score the WHITE COLORED VINYL for the new Radiohead! Don’t overlook the Mary And The Small Omission cassette from Iron Pier Records please. Gorgeous sounds you need to hear, give the bandcamp link a click and check it out. Alright here’s your complete list and we’re also relisting last months update because it was killer and you need to glace through those items once again. Last month was the release of Pig Destroyer’s Painter Of Dead Girls Deluxe vinyl reissue. The colored version sold out fast but we do still have some black vinyl available, not for long though. Get some new tunes, slam us with orders, keep us busy! Folding cardboard around your happily placed orders gives us an immense amount of pleasure! Thank you for the support, you keep us going!

Robotic Empire Launches Pig Destroyer Deluxe Reissue 12″

Alright everyone, we are stoked to announce the deluxe reissue of Virginia grind outfit Pig Destroyer‘s “Painter of Dead Girls” collection album, fully remastered and expanded with additional audio, additional artwork, archival photos and long-lost lyrics. Showcasing the band at their most primal (as a then-bassless power trio) these recordings capture the varied sounds of an envelope-pushing, borderline feral outfit. The release is officially out May 20th and we’re accepting pre-orders in the Robotic Empire Online Store Pig Destroyer Pre-Orders

In the leadup to this deluxe reissue, a largely unheard yet definitive version of their late-90s demo-era track ‘Delusional Supremacy’ is now streaming via Noisey:

Noisey Stream

With a sonically massive rendering, ‘Delusional Supremacy 2K’ was previously found only on an obscure early-00’s sampler, unavailable widespread until now. This blistering PxDx deep cut is finally given proper attention, and is unlocked within the “Painter of Dead Girls (Deluxe Edition)” digital pre-orders, as well as streaming as a standalone single via Spotify:

iTunes – iTunes

Bandcamp – Bandcamp

Spotify – Spotify

Finally available again on vinyl after over a decade of unavailability, the first half of this collection was initially tracked as an equipment burn-in test during the millineal year leading up to Pig Destroyer self-recording their seminal “Prowler In The Yard” full-length. The secondary bulk of the material initially yielded their most sonically powerful recordings at the time, put to tape in the late 1990’s at Oblivion Studios (pg.99, Enemy Soil, etc).

Rounding out this expanded edition of “Painter of Dead Girls” is a raw mosh basement live recording of ‘Rejection Fetish’, along with a truly bludgeoning cover of Helmet‘s ‘In The Meantime’ complimenting the existing Dwarves and Stooges covers. With 19 blistering tracks in total all meticulously remastered by James Plotkin, this key piece of the Pig Destroyer catalog looks and sounds better than ever.

The original album artwork by Chris Taylor has been extended into a beautiful gatefold jacket with added metallic silver highlights. Newly created extra artwork adornes the interior, along with recently unearthed lyrics to all the PxDx songs found on “Painter of Dead Girls”, printed in full for the first time ever. A double-sided photo collage innersleeve houses the vinyl, containing classic photos from the era surrounding these recordings. The digital download versions includes a PDF booklet of these elements.

The vinyl version includes a full digital download of the album, and Pig Destroyer‘s classic “Painter of Dead Girls” collection is finally done justice on this deluxe edition release. Head on over to the Robotic Empire Online Store and check out the colored vinyl version and grab one up, they’re going fast! Black vinyl also available. Order Here!

Last month also saw the release of our third and final Nirvana Tribute album, “Doused In Mud, Soaked In Bleach”. We still have a handful of copies left in both clear and white colored vinyl but they are getting low and once these are gone they are gone for good. Here’s the link, add one to your cart! Doused In Mud, Soaked In Bleach

Hollow Sunshine Deluxe Cassettes are still available! This bundle includes the brand new 4 song cassette EP from the band showcasing artwork by Reuban Sawyer, an enamel pin and cloth screen printed patch. Great deal for $9.99, give it a glance – Hollow Sunshine Deluxe Cassette Release

Now on to a MASSIVE distro update for this month. Maybe you noticed back in April we brought in some odd ball releases, non typical for the Robo distro but we want to keep filling up our shelves with some various other genres, especially some blues rock and folk. If you’re unfamiliar with a lot of these artists we highly urge you to click on the item and give a listen to the sound samples we offer on each and every item page. The Alabama Shakes are a band we just can’t get enough of and are super stoked to be carrying in the online store. This is some serious summer music, blues & soul blended nicely with some 70’s rock. We’ve got both their albums available now and they are a great match to Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings which is another artist we brought in last month and again now, with their most popular album, “Naturally”.

Constantly rotating on our turntable at the moment is Charles Bradley, this guy is exactly what folks are saying, a gutsy soul singer reminiscent of the 60’s. Gutsy being the perfect description to his sound, we get chills listening and our favorite album is probably “No Time For Dreaming”. Again, sound samples available, please take a second and check out his sound. He even covers Neil Young, Nirvana, and Black Sabbath….Come on!!

I’m sure we don’t have to introduce Blonde Redhead or The Red House Painters. Some great albums from those bands we’re happy to have available for you to purchase from our online shop now! Years ago in Ohio, Lindsay had the opportunity to see Jason Molina play and a lovely woman named Scout Niblett was touring with him at the time. This chick is amazing, has quite a few albums out and we’re carrying two of our favorites in hopes you guys will give them a spin. Again, if it helps you choose, personal album favorite would be “The Calcination Of Scout Niblett”. In the folky category there’s Brandi Carlile and Hurray for the Riff Raff. Americana and folky melancholy, good music all around and at a good price so easy to take a chance on. The Savages have been getting a lot of press lately and we wanted to offer those albums in the shop too, new King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and lots of Ratatat music to pick from!

Mega Relapse Records stock up. Baroness, Bongzilla, Dillinger Escape Plan, Magrudergrind, Nothing, Pig Destroyer, new new WRONG 12″. Lots, lots, lots. This is update is getting wordy, read over the full listing below

http://noisey.vice.com/blog/pig-destroyer-painter-of-dead-girls

With a sonically massive rendering, ‘Delusional Supremacy 2K’ was previously found only on an obscure early-00’s sampler, unavailable widespread until now. This blistering PxDx deep cut is finally given proper attention, and is unlocked within the “Painter of Dead Girls (Deluxe Edition)” digital pre-orders, as well as streaming as a standalone single via Spotify:

Spotifyhttps://open.spotify.com/album/4FFGrI53uwu6cf74HI2T4x

The vinyl version of “Painter of Dead Girls (Deluxe Edition)” is also available now for pre-order in the Robotic Empire – Online Store, including a limited color vinyl option.

In a feature last year, Vice called Pig Destroyer “one of the most influential American grindcore bands” and frontman J.R. Hayes a “lyrical genius”. Commenting on the new reissue, Hayes states:

“Painter of Dead Girls is a record that really benefits from being on vinyl and the crushing new mastering job by James Plotkin makes it sound better than ever. This record combines the two EPs (split with Benumb and split with Gnob) that we released right before Prowler in the Yard. The material for the Benumb split was written in a couple days and recorded in one quick session the weekend before we recorded Prowler, and once we did that album, we kind of forgot about these two EPs, which is a shame, ’cause I think this might be some of our most vicious stuff. Fast-forward a couple months and somebody smashes my car window and steals my backpack, which contains a bunch of my notebooks. Talk about depressing. I thought the lyrics for the Benumb split were gone, and I never bothered to sit down and try to figure them out again.

Fast-forward a few years and Robotic Empire is compiling Painter of Dead Girls for its original CD release. Andy asks for the lyrics and I’m like [tugging at shirt collar] ‘Uh… about that…’ I mean, it’s one thing to not print the lyrics on purpose, but who doesn’t even know their own lyrics? It was kind of embarrassing. Fast-forward to a couple years ago, and I discover a stash of forgotten notebooks while I’m moving. Pinned inside one, I find a crumpled sheet that has most of the lyrics for the Benumb split, and this inspires me to actually sit down and figure the rest of them out. Fast-forward to now, and here they are, in print for the first time ever, along with some brand-new artwork from my favorite artist Chris “Crude” Taylor and first-class packaging courtesy of renowned music pimp Andy Low and the Robotic Empire. I can’t wait to hold one of these babies in my grubby hands.

Long live Grind. And Virginia.”

Robotic Empire Launches 3rd Nirvana Tribute Album!

On this lovely day in April we are extremely pleased to announce the release of our third Nirvana Tribute album titled “Doused In Mud, Soaked In Bleach”. This newest LP completes a trifecta of homages to the legendary grunge band’s official studio albums with “Whatever Nevermind” in 2015 and “In Utero, In Tribute” having been released in 2014.

The classic debut album “Bleach” is covered in full by 13 diverse artists including Basement, Beach Slang, Big Hush, Circa Survive, Daughters, Defeater, The Fall Of Troy, Mean Jeans, Rob Crow’s Gloomy Place, The Saddest Landscape, This Will Destroy You, Thou, and Young Widows.

Appropriately reflecting Nirvana’s rawest studio album alongside a full-circle nod to our root genres, this is arguably the darkest, heaviest release in the tribute series. A tasteful re-envision of these classic songs sees all 13 “Bleach” tracks run through the bands’ creative engines, putting an intense new perspective on these 25+ year old songs.

On our update today we are offering a limited number of Record Store Day versions of the “Doused In Mud, Soaked In Bleach” tribute. This version comes on metallic silver colored vinyl and includes a bonus over sized poster. The standard versions of the release come on white colored vinyl and clear colored vinyl, minus the poster and all copies include a download code. Available now in the Robotic Empire Online Store, head on over and pick out the copy (or copies!) you’d like to purchase.

In case you missed it, back in March we had a killer distro update, bringing in many new titles and lots of crucial restocks. We’re re-listing those products below for you to browse through in hopes you may find something you’d like to add to that shopping cart! Also released in March was the Deluxe Cassette Release for California band Hollow Sunshine. This set includes a cloth patch and enamel pin showcasing the artwork of guitarist Reuben Sawyer. Big Hush premiere their cover of Nirvana’s ‘Sifting’ via NPR Music + STORE LIST

Washington, DC quartet Big Hush premiere today their cover of Nirvana‘s 1988 classic, ‘Sifting’, via NPR Music:

http://www.npr.org/sections/allsongs/2016/04/14/473967006/big-hush-turns-nirvanas-sifting-into-a-droney-dream

Comprised of Emma Baker, Owen Wuerker, Genevieve Ludwig and Chris Taylor, Big Hush trade in their usual blissed-out shoegaze fuzz for a slightly more subtle approach to the sludgey classic. Bassist Chris Taylor (also a member of Pygmy Lush) elaborates:

“I wrote the skeleton on each of pygmylush’s [Nirvana cover] songs and this big hush song, brought them in and let the ensemble of both bands color it how they saw fit. I always approach Nirvana covers as a re-write, I’m not that talented as a player so I always try to dumb them down a bit so I can play and sing them at the same time, what happens after that is a by product of the amazingly talented musicians I keep company with.

Every member of big hush is a songbird, they can all sing incredibly well, and immediately have a catalog of harmonies to choose from, Genevieve and Emma make the scale and dynamic grand, Owen can play literally every instrument very well, and in fact he rewrote the basic riff I gave him to give it texture, on this recording he plays every instrument, organ, acoustic, bass, shaker, tambourine, and we recorded this version in one day.

Sifting was an interesting song to approach this way, it’s basically a kinda metal Melvins kinda thing, so we pretty much followed the structure and not the notes, and just tried to make it dreamy.”

The resulting cover mirrors a recent Washington Post live review of Big Hush, describing the band as such:

“Big Hush’s principal affinities with dream-pop [are] the blurry quality of its vocals and the way its steel-wool guitars scrubbed the other elements… While Big Hush is still defining its style, it’s already moved beyond predictable genre tags.”

Completing a trifecta of tributes to Nirvana‘s studio albums by Robotic Empire, on this third full-LP homage, “Doused in Mud, Soaked in Bleach”, Big Hush‘s cover joins a diverse array of others from the likes of Basement, Beach Slang, Circa Survive, Daughters, Defeater, The Fall of Troy, Mean Jeans, Rob Crow’s Gloomy Place, The Saddest Landscape, This Will Destroy You, Thou and Young Widows.

“Doused in Mud, Soaked in Bleach” is available on vinyl and digitally this Saturday, April 16th. The vinyl is arriving now at stores for Record Store Day, and the digital release is also available for pre-order with tracks by Big Hush, Basement, Circa Survive and This Will Destroy You unlocked within for immediate download:
